Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell was released on April 1, 2012. The book was written about twenty five interesting characters who are in high school. But there are two main characters Eleanor and Park.
The book focused on two high school students who got involved in a not so typical high school romance. Eleanor is the new girl, she has crazy red hair and the strange clothes. Park is the quiet Asian boy who does everything to avoid bringing attention to himself.
There story begin until Eleanor walks onto the bus. They awkwardly sit together never speaking, until they come to the conclusion that they share a common interest in comics and good music. Once their barrier of silence is broken they are propelled into a whirlwind of first love. And while neither has a perfect life they manage to find solace with each other.
In my opinion I think the characters, the romance, the writing and just the way everything unfolded so beautifully and felt so real. I wasn’t expecting to care so much about these characters and their relationship but I was completely caught up in this story.I feel like I really know both Eleanor and Park, and I love them both separately but I especially love them together. It seemed like their relationship shouldn’t work, but it does, so well. I was grinning like an idiot while reading because I was just so giddy over their blooming romance. I could feel how much they cared for each other like it was oozing off the pages of the book.
However, the ending relies on your connection to their romance to feel the heartbreak. The problem with that was I wanted to know what became of Eleanor’s mom and siblings, but the focus was instead on her feelings for Park and letting him go. Eleanor spent a good amount of the story in this terrible housing with her step dad and mom. When I really wanted to know her feelings about everything, all I get is a post card and the book end. Also, I needed for the plot to come in and rescue this book.
Some of the book readers particularly didn’t like the book they wanted it to focus more on the background of the family and not so much on the romance. Me, I would have like for it to be a little bit of both.
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell the book is rated 5 stars. The book was awarded Goodreads Choice Awards Best Young Adult Fiction
